About Me

Remember that the Communication Goal consists of two parts: verbal and quantitative.  You should address these separately.

Verbal and Visual Communication:
This goal addresses the student's ability to communicate in words (writing and speaking) as well as visually (graphic design, illustration, art, photography, etc.).  State in one or two well-developed paragraphs how you feel you have progressed towards this goal over the past year. You need to present at least two examples that you feel represent your very best work in this area. These examples may show up in other goal areas, as well. Your paragraphs should include an explanation of the reasons you chose the samples you did for this goal.  The links to your samples should be descriptive titles.  The examples here are not hot links, but yours should be!

  • Sample 1 - Research Paper: "Images of Evil in Works of Art"
[note: although this does not need to be in the communication section, it needs to be somewhere on your portfolio and needs to be one of the samples you provide]
  • Sample 2 - Spring Midterm Essay: "The Expression of Diversity and Oppression in Music"
[note: this is a made-up example; stay tuned for the actual essay assignment!]
  • Sample 3 - Winter Final Essay: "The Four University Studies Goals as Revealed in Jan Saendredam's Plato's Cave"
[note:  you may choose an essay from an earlier term, such as your long essay from the final last term; as this should be an example of your best writing, you may want to refine it and, of course, separate it out so it stands as a separate piece.  Also, please note that you do not need three examples, only two.  I'm providing this as a suggestion and reminder for you to choose from other terms.]
Quantitative Literacy:  This goal addresses the student's ability to understand, interpret, and communicate with numbers and graphs.

[note: every research paper in this class should have a quantitative element; if it is only a very minor part of your paper, you may not want to include that as an example of quantitative literacy]
  • Sample 2 - Content Analysis: "Misogyny and Materialism in Hip Hop"
[note: you have been exposed to this assignment but have not yet started it; stay tuned for instructions over the next couple of weeks.]
  • Sample 3 - Statistical Analysis:  "Interpretation of General Social Survey Frequencies Distributions"
